Ben Wigley partook in the Young Enterprise Scheme in 2010 and is a co-founder of Banqer - an online financial education platform for primary and intermediate schools.
Banqer simulates real-world monetary and business decisions that many individuals face, and prepares students for the financial realities ahead. Banqer was founded in 2014 at a Startup Weekend in Wellington, and since its inception has gone from strength to strength. It won the BNZ Webstock Startup Alley competition in early 2015 and has since gone on to launch in New Zealand Schools. It is now used in over 2000 classrooms around New Zealand, and even some offshore.
Banqer is the first of its kind globally, and as a mission-driven business seeks to work with organisations who share similar beliefs and values around improved financial capability. Ben has been instrumental in maintaining this stance, while balancing it with the ability to further innovate and sustain through potential upsets. Ben has prior startup experience, both through Young Enterprise, and a former startup called ‘Linkerly’. These experiences meant that Ben was able to contribute strongly to articulating a business structure that would not only serve the product, but also serve its social purpose.
