Hot Topic 6 introduces students to the sharemarket and discusses shares, investment and risk. Students will examine 3 different NZX-listed companies, discuss the risks involved in the sharemarket and take part in an investment challenge.
Students will learn how exchange rates can affect individuals, importers and exporters. Students will also discuss how exchange rate changes can affect people in different situations, and take part in a currency trading challenge.
This unit examines the different types of personal insurance products available today. Students will examine the insurance costs for a range of different scenarios and discuss the economic consequences of not having insurance.
This resource introduces students to New Zealand’s KiwiSaver scheme and its benefits. Students will calculate how much they can save using the KiwiSaver scheme and discuss the wider impacts of the scheme.
Hot Topic 10 introduces students to a range of taxation measures including income tax, PAYE and GST. Students will learn how to get an IRD number, calculate their tax code and will perform simple tax calculations.
Students will learn about New Zealand’s student loan system, find out what a student loan can be used for and work out repayments for different scenarios.
This unit will help students learn about flatting, including their rights, responsibilities and financial implications. Students will look at costs including bond and letting fees, and will complete a tenancy agreement.
