The year 13 students dreamt up Kiwi Pops as part of the Lion Foundation's Young Enterprise Scheme, a nationwide secondary school competition.

Chief executive Katie Vodanovich says as teenage girls, they saw a move to more healthy eating.

Anna Carman from Baradene College is a fan of the healthy ice pops.

"The Kiwi classics you see in the store all the time are generally very unhealthy," she says.

What the girls thought would be a relatively easy task, proved quite tricky with none of them ever making ice cream before.

"Getting the recipe right was the toughest part, from February until July we were still testing out different flavour combinations," Vodanovich says.
