Roncalli College students' innovation gains place in national Young Enterprise Scheme finals

The reusable jute bag designed by three young high school entrepreneurs has won them an award in The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) company of the year national finals, but they are unsure which one it is.

The team will discover which of the 13 national awards they have won after they make their final pitch for the title of Company of the Year against the 20 other regional finalists in Wellington's TSB Arena on December 4.

YES is a year-long programme backed by the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce in which students establish and run an actual company.

Roncalli College students Nick Goodwin, 16, Grace Scarsbrook, 17, and former student Billy Cook,17, were named the South Canterbury regional champions at Ara Institute recently.

The students created the business Patiti Point selling a decorative, multipurpose reusable bag made from jute and cotton.
