The idea for a national student film festival came about after a Campion College Young Enterprise group organised a mini film festival.

It was so successful, they wanted to do something much bigger that would bring student films to the big screen.

For the 2017 Student Film Festival, genre and subject matter is left to film-makers’ imaginations, with a stipulation that the film has to be appropriate for an audience of all ages.

Last year’s entries ranged from zombie comedies to drama with thought-provoking messages.

Among the $500 worth of prizes for the 2017 Student Film Festival is a top prize of a Go Pro camera.

Categories are Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Use of Technology, Most Unique Idea, and Best Use of Te Reo.

The film festival is restricted to Year 7 to Year 13 students. Films must be three to 10 minutes long, including credits.

Registration is $30 a team.

Entries close August 27. The festival screening will be held at the Odeon Multiplex next month.
