Trust shows path to unusual careers

The Young Enterprise Trust is showing rangatahi Māori high school students some non-traditional career pathways.

The trust, which co-ordinates a range of initiatives and has teaching mentors and programme directors around the country, held its first Te Pae Tawhiti careers summit in Napier last Friday.

Māori Engagement manager Ian Musson says it showcased digital technologies, animation, robotics, engineering, and architecture.

Speakers included graduates of Ōtaki’s Māoriland Tech Creative Hub Maaka Gaia-Houia and Turanga Mahutonga; Tono app and game developer Wiremu Wallace; Jesse Armstong, the founder of tech start-up VAKA; and Amber Taylor, the co-founder of Ara Journeys.
