It's okay to not know what you want to do | Kamla Phal

A common theme from the business leaders that spoke to us such as Jethro Gilbert, Lauren James, Stuart Kerr and Dhawal Nayak is that it's okay to not know what you want to do for the rest of your life straight out of high school.

All these speakers illustrated that they went through many different career choices before finding a passion with business. Personally, I find there is a stigma that you should know what you want to do straight out of high school and you should have your career pathway planned. Instead these speakers showed me that instead you just have to take risks and also ‘go with the flow’.

What I noticed about these speakers is that there current occupations were never planned and to get were they are now they just followed their passion. Professor Brad Jackson told us to “ get a sense of where you are now and where you are going to be”. His wording had an impact on me as he says have a ‘sense’ not a plan. He has taught me that we only need to have a sense of where we a going to be not a goal.

This is important to be as I had made me more comfortable with the fact that I only have a vague idea what I want to do in the future. His words have allowed me to come to the understanding that I need to just follow my passion and see where that takes me. All these business leaders followed a passion of their own and to see where they are now is truly inspirational and motivational.
