They're in the running to win the award for south Auckland regional company of the year, to be announced on October 21.

The teenagers created a tasty spread that contains cashews, peanuts, walnuts, Brazil nuts and hazelnuts.

They started out selling their 200-gram jars for $10 but have since dropped the price to $5.

They've sold about 350 so far with 10 per cent of their profits donated to KidsCan Charitable Trust.

The team's successes include being one of 10 to advance from a preliminary competition held at Aorere College in Papatoetoe to the "Dragon's Den" finals at AUT University.

"We're aiming to win an excellence prize and are attending a trade fair in October.

"We'll sell our product and launch other ideas also."

The team's members ate a lot of nut butter while trying to find the right flavour for their final product.
