A team of 10 entrepreneurial teens have started a company "Soaperb", and they plan to sell soap.

Members include Symphony Thakkar, Natasha McNaught, Conor Mills, Jasmine Burrow, Jared Smollet, DeReece Pickering, Sophie Dix, Samuel Hutton, Morgan Allington and Grace Schuurman. Their advisor is Tim Bathgate of Shand Thomson and the teacher in charge is John Douglas.  

The group meet every week to make decisions regarding the production, marketing and financial record keeping.

With some help from The Catlins Soap Company they are producing three different flavours of soap, lemon, ylang ylang and goats milk.

And speaking of the Catlins, The Catlins Area School reaped the benefit of generous campers, who left an extra dollar or two in fees at the nearby Hillview Campsite over the last year.

Owners Kevin and Susan Boam and helper Renee Thompson decided to put on a treat for the school last Thursday, by rolling up with their barbecues, and cooking 100 sausages, not to mention 140 cheese burgers and onions for pupils.

"It all came from donations from our customers," Kevin Boam said.

He said it was good to putting something back into the community.

"We would sooner it go to the kids. They really enjoyed it and so did we."
