Students hope for 'salami' of orders as children's book released in time for quake anniversary.
A boy called Tane and his faithful dog are set to help children learn what to do in an earthquake.
The two book characters have been created by a team of entrepreneurial friends at Westmount School in Blenheim.
Their new book, titled A Shiver Shake Massive Earthquake, was initially written by the team in a bid to help their younger school friends.
They hope the book will be released in time to mark the first anniversary of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake on November14 which struck near Kaikōura.
The kind-hearted group, known as Tane's Team, will also donate a dollar from every sale to the Kaikōura Earthquake Appeal.
Crawford Fisher, 18, and friends Glenn Beatson, 17, Regan Faulkner, 17, Amy Johnson, 17, and Renae Hamilton, 18, came up with the compassionate concept.
Crawford says younger children were especially affected by the huge quake.
"It became apparent that the younger kids at school were struggling and every time there was an aftershock they just wanted their mums and dads. We wanted to help," he says.
Tane's Team is part of the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) which is geared towards inspiring young people to discover their potential in business.
The 44-page illustrated children's book based on the Kaikōura Earthquake has been months in the making.
