The Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) event at Ara Institute of Canterbury on Thursday saw 42 South Canterbury students attending.

The scheme provides an introduction to the business world and over an academic year students work in teams to set up and run a real company under the guidance of their lead educator and supported by the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and business mentors.

Chief executive for YES Alex Bullot said it was “energising” to see students from a number of South Canterbury schools come together and collaborate.

Regional coordinator Kaitlin Clews said, “It was refreshing to see how involved the students were in their business plans and the concept of YES and how many attended the Kickstart event.

“We are looking forward to seeing where the students take their ideas this year.”

On Thursday, the students came together to gain advice and speed coaching on their business ideas from five mentors - Ben Millington (Group Quotation Manager, Todd Mudie Group), Paula Macpherson (Finance and Management Accountant, Todd Mudie Group), Richard Brown (Residential Lifestyles Sales Consultant, Property Brokers), Wendy Smith (CEO of South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce), Stacey Gallagher (Events and Marketing Manager, South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce) and also Bullot.
